Megève ski area / La Giettaz – Newly refurbished Alpine-style apartment (70 sq m). The pretty village of La Giettaz nestles in a dramatic setting between its snow-sure north-facing slopes and a national park . This is a real mountain village, not a purpose-built ski resort. Friendly bars, hotels and restaurants, ski hire shops, supermarket, butcher and baker cluster round the church in the centre of the village, a few minutes walk from the apartment. Just underneath our apartment is a ski hire shop and a carpenter's shop selling pine furniture and accessories. Our apartment, ‘Lou Darbelots’ is quietly situated at the entrance to the village and a very short walk to the shops and other facilities. The village is equally welcoming in summer and winter. In summer the village is adorned with flowers and the walks through meadows, woods, or by the river take in some beautiful scenery. In winter we are just 50m from the ski bus stop. The main ski area is just 10 minutes by free bus. Here the Torraz chair lift gives access to the 450 km of pistes covered by the Evasion Mont Blanc lift pass, and reputedly the best food in the Alps. The ski school is excellent with caring instructors who make ski lessons fun and safe. There are snow shoe nature walks and other programmes available for non-skiers. Numerous events are organised by the Office de Tourisme each week during both winter and summer seasons. These include a welcome drink and an opportunity to taste some local produce. At the end of July there is an arts festival in the village with a traditional barn dance! There are events and films in the cinema and even a museum portraying life in days gone by.
